Murder Mystery Party Game Synopsis:
It is the height of Prohibition in 1920s Chicago, and a mob war is brewing between the South Side Gangsters and the Northern Chicago Mob Outfit. The two ruthless crime bosses, Hal Sapone and Beanie O’Dannon, have finally reached an agreement concerning bootlegging operations in Chicago. They have decided to combine their resources and cooperate in future criminal ventures.
On the surface, this strategy seems a bit like attempting to bail out a sinking ship with tin cups. Gangsters from the north and south have recently been spotted together at speakeasies throughout Chicago, but the tension between the rival organizations remains thick enough to cut with a knife. So far, the fragile alliance has prevented the gratuitous bloodshed of the past.
Part of the truce’s success may be attributed to the fact that both crime bosses have found new dames, intertwining additional relationships between the two factions. The gangs have set an official date to meet at Hal Sapone’s Grand Gatsby Speakeasy and resolve their remaining differences.
Will the two underground organizations finally settle their disputes, or will a massive melee rekindle the fatal flames between them? You have received an invitation to the gathering at the Grand Gatsby Speakeasy. This is where your story begins.

These Murder Mystery Parties have become the most anticipated event for my teen drama students each year and a tradition I will never stop hosting. My teens spend the entire season asking when the murder mystery night will be—and the excitement only grows. I’ve now hosted five, maybe 6, annual murder mysteries with groups of 70-75 teens, and this year—I'm at 110-120 students—so I am even hosting both a matinee and evening party- long day- but 120 at once is a bit too much drama for me- (at my house especially).
The Grand Gatsby Murder Mystery Script (including all three expansion packs), is the most recent one I have used. It is incredibly well written, flexible, and easy to scale—. The character backstories are rich and fun, giving every student something meaningful to play, and the Roaring ’20s setting is woven in so naturally that students truly learn about the era while performing. These teens BRING IT with the costumes- one of my favorite parts of each year is seeing the commitment to costumes they come up with & props. Always top-notch. I mean I am working with theater kiddos so their character commitment is high & they are a bit dramatic- but they LOVE for this tradition. THANK YOU for making this experience possible for them & creating memories they will have forever!
This Great Gatsby Murder Mystery was a blast- the costumes were incredible, the character commitment was next-level. The character backstories are rich and fun, giving every student something meaningful to play, and the Roaring ’20s setting is woven in so naturally that students truly learn about the era while performing. Our students absolutely thrive in these experiences. I’ve now hosted five murder mysteries with groups of 60+ teens at my home annually for 5 going on 6 years, and this year—we have 120 students—I'm having to host both a matinee and evening party so everyone gets a fair play and can enjoy.
Our annual murder mystery parties (all purchased from here- have become the most anticipated event of the year (for our teens) and a tradition I will never stop hosting. From the very get go of each new year- the entire season students ask when the murder mystery night will be—and the excitement only grows. It’s truly one of the highlights of our year.
Highly recommend!
Everyone at our party had so much fun! We're going to make this an annual event. As a host, the toolkit was AMAZING - easy to use, spelled everything out clearly, and even made very clear spoiler alerts allowing me to know how to host the event but also be able to participate myself without reading any of the solutions in advance. The character descriptions were amazing and clue packages were so fun to work through! Many different personalities (introverts & extroverts alike) were able to get right into the game and have a great time!
This was a great party. Lots of laughs but with a swanky vibe. Would definitely do this again.
I felt like it was a little chaotic being the host and being a character in the game, but ultimately everyone had the best time and I would definitely recommend this to anyone! We will certainly be doing it again!
