Last Will of Roland Kingsley: Murder Mystery Party Game

I just hosted my first murder mystery party and chose this package to use. We played with 14 people, all of whom are in our mid twenties to early thirties. It was so much fun! Even my biggest doubters were impressed and surprised not only at how well put together the story was, but how much they enjoyed it. I tried to follow everything the instructions said and printed all of the materials, put clues in envelopes and scrolls, decorated my apartment with a gothic, funeralesque vibe and served finger foods and wine. Only one person guessed the killer! So we also gave out best actor awards, which was fun. By the end of the night everyone had told me multiple times how great of an idea this was, and how excited they were to do it again. Thanks for a well crafted game and making my first party special!!

We just played it with 17 adults who had never done a murder mystery before. We were concerned after hearing it was a 8/10 for difficulty so we explained to everyone not to be too stingy with their clues they can conceal. 17 is quite a bit of people to try and talk to so I might might cut down the number of people to 14-16, but it was still good. In the end about 75% of the people got the answer correct. Also the customer service was like nothing I’d experienced, extremely quick and helpful responses. Keep up the good work, would definitely do another or recommend to others

This was our second mystery party from your company. Last year our daughter, who was turning 16 at the time, was hesitant to have a birthday party (you know, it might not be cool) but really wanted to try this. She did, and it was such a huge success and the kids had so much fun that she did another one again this year. Anything that keeps a huge group of teenagers entertained, engaged, and having a blast is a huge success! It’s been so fun for them that I want to try it for my own birthday. So, we’ll be ordering from you again soon! 5+ stars!!

Our guests had a blast! We all got into character and did a good job staying in character. The only person who guessed the killer was the killer themself. When they read their plot card, everyone felt confused. The card itself was a bit anticlimactic in that it didn’t help anyone draw any connections to what they missed. We have some very competitive people who were very diligent about taking notes, but even after reviewing the solution cards felt like there were a lot of loose ends. Everything didn’t tie together as neatly as we expected. This was an 8/10 difficulty, so we would probably do an easier one next time. Also, I wonder if we might have done better without the expansion pack as it would have left out some of the extraneous details. But again, even the solution cards left something to be desired. We felt there was no definite trail to be followed. It cast potential blame on everyone but never ruled anyone out. Ruling people out over time would have helped narrow down the suspect list.

I purchased the downloadable version of this game. We only used the “required” players, so it was a small group of people. We were all newbies, but wanted a challenge. The game was easy enough to set up. The character prompts are more subtle directives, so it takes some warming up if you don’t know what you’re doing. Since we didn’t do all of the characters, some of the clues were missed and the prompts were pointless.
The download version wasn’t really printer friendly; I wasn’t able to edit the pages to be able to print things like the name tags on labels, so be prepared to either waste or make your own.

All in all, everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves.
