Murder Mystery Party Game Synopsis:
Since 1864, the Bateman Hotel has offered its guests refined luxury, romantic evenings, and glittering nights in the mysterious town of Wraith’s Cove. After years of decline, the historic hotel was purchased, restored, and reopened to the public. The new owner is now hosting an elegant soirée to celebrate the first anniversary of its grand reopening.
The Bateman Hotel is once again becoming the place to see and be seen, although prospective guests may wish to choose their rooms carefully. Several rooms have inspired reports of ill-spirited apparitions, strange pockets of mist that cause overwhelming dread, unexplained drops in temperature, and terrifying voices echoing through the corridors during the early morning hours.
Despite the hotel’s unsettling reputation, the anniversary celebration has attracted an intriguing collection of employees, permanent residents, visitors, and VIP guests. The infamous Quinn Bloom is expected to attend and plans to bring a rare collection of antique dolls to the hotel.
Rumors surrounding the dolls are disturbing, but surely they are nothing more than spooky stories created to frighten hotel guests. Then again, the Bateman Hotel has never been an ordinary place.
You have received an invitation to the anniversary soirée and would not miss the event for the world. This is where your story begins.
This is a challenging mystery with two victims: one primary homicide investigation and one additional quick-sleuth mystery.

Hosted this party at a friend's house, and boy did she go all out with her decorations! She did it right after Halloween, so there were plenty of people willing to share their decor. The guests (her bookclub friends) were all in, and their costumes showed so much talent and showmanship. The setting of a haunted hotel is classic, and the haunted doll aspect is so creepy. The guests loved the way this mystery is set up with the ability to accuse each other and share vital information. All enjoyed the experience, and as always, thank you, MMP, for an excellent evening!
Bought this for Halloween, the package came with very easy instructions, recipes, signage and more! We’ll worth the money!!! My friend group showed up, and we had such an amazing night of interrogating each other and bonus games! While there was really convincing theories, this expert level game was a tough one and no one guessed right. -p.s. we’re going to buy more of these games….can’t wait for the next one!
This one was complicated and I didn’t like the ending.
We have done murder mysteries as a family before but have never tackled one this complex. As always, all the materials needed to have an awesome experience are included with terrific easy to follow instructions. I got the version where I knew who the murderer was so I could match personalities of the participants to their characters. Because it was on Halloween we went all out on decorating. We had a haunted hallway and the front desk for a hotel complete with creepy statuary. We created haunted “dolls” by painting ugly knick knacks black with red eyes. Totally creepy and fit the part.
This mystery requires all participants to fully engage and play their part or vital information won’t be shared. No wallflowers allowed in the required parts. Everyone got into character and played it up all the way. Accusations were flying and that was before the murder even happened! Once the victim came out in their victim shirt it really got going. We had an absolute blast.
This being the year from Covid hell, my college freshman daughter who is having to remote learn asked for a big Halloween blowout with the family. Afterward, she said this was her best Halloween ever. If that isn’t the best endorsement you can get, I don’t know what is.
The first half of the mystery was a lot of fun. All of the characters made for interesting dialogue and playful conversation. The murder happening mid game was also a surprise because the guests were not expecting it. However, after the murder the game quickly became very confusing and there were too many working parts for it to be as enjoyable as the beginning of the game. Nonetheless we persisted on and each worked to solve the mystery. Then after questioning, formulating theories, and asking follow up questions we were finally ready to make our guesses. When we revealed the solution we found out that the solution was dependent on a piece of information left out of the game! We were frustrated to say the least and we were disappointed by the end game explanations that described where each person was when the murder happened and why they were guilty or innocent. Overall the mystery was hard, but that’s because the game doesn’t give you all of the information and expects you to extrapolate certain information and use that to solve the mystery. For some this might be a great fit, but for the nerdy group that I played it with (who have all played multiple murder mystery games before and are what most would call “board gamers”) it was not good for us and I don’t think it would be good for like minded groups.
