Halloween Murder Mystery Game Synopsis:
Shade Hallow Manor is a crumbling old mansion in the misty town of Dark Cloud. Built in 1670 by a legendary writer named Shade Hallow, the manor once stood tall and proud—but now it’s worn down, overgrown, and full of ghost stories. Back in his day, Mr. Hallow was treated like a king. Everyone adored his spooky books and strange imagination.
The manor still holds pieces of its former beauty—arched windows, carved doors, and towering chimneys—but time and weather have taken their toll. The gardens are wild with weeds where roses and twisted topiaries once bloomed. The last of the Hallow family passed away over 300 years ago, and the townspeople took over the estate. But they never dared to fix it up… not with the rumors that Shade Hallow’s ghost still wanders the hallways. The estate managers have hired crews to clean out the dust and cobwebs for the first time in centuries. They’re hosting a Halloween bash at the manor, hoping to turn it into a spooky bed and breakfast that will bring tourists—and money—to Dark Cloud. Most folks are excited, but not everyone agrees. Some say the manor is cursed and should be left alone.
You live in Dark Cloud, and you’re not quite sure what to believe. But like it or not, you’ve received an invitation to the party at Shade Hallow Manor. The moon is full, the air is thick with fog… and this is where your story begins.

Standard vs. Spoiler-Free Assembly
Standard Version
The standard version requires light assembly before the party. The host must fold and insert the cards for Rounds 1, 2, and 3 into the corresponding labeled envelopes.
Spoilers are limited to the Round 2 and Round 3 card bundles. If the host wishes to avoid seeing them, a trusted person who is not playing may fold and insert those cards. The remaining kit will still arrive prepared without exposing the host to spoilers.
Spoiler-Free Version
With the Spoiler-Free (Party-Ready) Preparation Option, the Round 1, 2, and 3 clue & solution cards are professionally folded and inserted into their designated envelopes, allowing the host to prepare for and host the party without any fear of viewing the spoiler content.
Pre-game character materials are not inserted into envelopes. This allows the host to add the players' contact information on the task cards while they are still arranged in a convenient stack, rather than removing them from envelopes and reinserting them afterward.
Included Assembly in Both Versions
Certain materials are inserted into their designated envelopes in every boxed kit, when applicable. These may include:
- Blackmail notes and other special messages
- Victim signs
- Forensic reports
- Scavenger hunt materials
- Other game-specific surprise items
Keep each bundle of envelopes together according to its label, such as Round 1, Round 2, or Round 3. Some envelopes may already contain game-specific materials, even when the remaining cards still require insertion.
With the standard kit, if an item has already been placed inside a designated character’s envelope, tuck it inside that character’s folded clue card before returning the card to the envelope. This helps ensure the player sees the additional item when the round begins.
Envelopes Are Not Sealed
Envelopes are left unsealed in both versions. This allows the host to review or adjust the materials if necessary, such as when a guest cancels at the last minute, and the host needs to confirm that all vital characters remain assigned.
The host may seal the envelopes before gameplay, but sealing is optional.

I made sure everyone committed, and then paid extra to everything printed and sealed. I’m glad I did, it was totally worth it!
We setup The night before, I made a booking police station photo op, that we used when people came in. Add some candles, webs, covered the furniture in white sheets, and made punch that I put into novelty blood bags, and added black lights.
Saturday, 6pm, Everyone got a name tag and took a pic. After everyone settled, we started round one, and people got into character. It was funny. We had drinks and apps.
We broke for dinner, at about 7:30. We pre ordered pizzas.
At 8pm we started round two, the motive and who was going to be the victim became pretty clear. That part was funny because we all looked at her and said you got any last words? And she flipped us off and went to become the victim. 8:20pm
The timeline (where everyone was during the murder) part was harder, that’s where I would take half a star, but we ended up doing that as a group. We each took turns reading off where we were, then the detective read the forensic report, and we wrote our guesses down. I collected the cards. Everyone shared who they thought the killer was.
Then round 3 cards went out and they read them in order. The last to read is the killer. Over by 9:30-10pm
Everyone wants to do it again!
Our guests enjoyed the evening. The mystery was great, my guests got into their roles and had a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this. We are doing Hatter's Ball this year.
