I wanted to host a memorable Sweet 16 party for my introverted daughter who dislikes noisy/chaotic crowded environments. I found the My Mystery Party site and the Doom Mansion mystery. My daughter and her friends loved this game. It was the perfect mix of engagement and fun allowing time for a meal, dessert (birthday cake), presents.
I really liked the pre-arrival texting activity leading up to the party. We created a group chat with her friends and they were responding in character (a little trash talking)
even before they arrived.
This had them engaged, even the ones not in "acting" because the materials for each character made it so easy for the less outgoing to participate confidently.
My husband and I served as the wait staff and I announced each round to keep them on track.
I was worried that with a meal and cake and gifts that this would run over the 3 hours we had planned. We finished and had a little time left over for karaoke.
Now, we could have used all the time and run over if we had rigorously followed every bit of the direction OR done any of the 'extra' activities.
As it was, we had several who got close in their guesses about who done it, but only one confidently chose the correct culprit.
Highly recommend this game and eager to do another.
We bought this for my daughter’s 13th birthday party. The girls had fun getting into character, which is really important because it makes the game fun. As the host, the directions were great and definitely review what you need to do before hand. Highly recommend it.
Loved the story and the easy to follow instructions for every round. We were pleased to find that it was easy to play. Everyone got into character and some people were confused because the acting was so great!
This. Was. A. Hoot. Our family revealed untold acting chops, and the hilarious trash talking flowed, from the pregame texts and emails to the actual game day. Playing with a couple of tweens, young adults in their twenties and older adults up to age 70 was a fun and unique mix, and this was perfect for a non-Halloween autumn game night - it gave us an extra excuse to dress up. The amount of cutting things out and host/hostess planning was entirely doable (give yourself some time, though - think in terms of a week or two beforehand, if you can), and while this was our first time, we know it will certainly not be the last (especially because we were hardly done with this one before people wanted to know what we were doing "next time").
We did this dinner party mystery with our 8 grandchildren ages 11-17. It was nice to have a choice of an event that did not involve a murder. It was a fun evening.
