Bloodwood Masquerade Ball: Murder Mystery Party Game

Overall the game was easy to follow! We all got confused on round 2 because we felt strange confessing crimes we did and were confused on why our character would do that instead of lie or hide it. But it was a very fun night and definitely want to do another one!

This is a great kit for a murder mystery party. Very clear on what to do and they give tips on the timeline. Great for teens. We hosted a whole soccer team at our house and they really got into character!

Had this for my 15 year olds masquerade birthday party, and it was great. Everyone caught on very quickly and got into character. It was a blast. Was nervous it may be too long for teenagers but it was great and they loved accusing each other and acting as their characters. The victim was a little shy so I did have to intervene to help move the murder along, but it was still fantastic. I barely had to do anything, the cards do a good job of making things flow. I made color coded name tags so I could easily hand clues (I scrolled and tied in colored yard) to people.

Okay, who doesn't love playing a good villain? I got this to throw a work party for my pharmacy team. It's a high stress job and we needed to do something to unwind. There's something cathartic about playing a bad guy, and boy howdy was this a room full of the most awful bleep-holes you ever met! My team got SO into character. We were out in public, in a restaurant, and they were having so much fun and were so deep into the story that they completely refused to break character, no matter what happened. The party was two weeks ago and they're still talking about it. The plot is good, of course, and the game flows easily, but what really sells this one is the characters. The awful, awful, fun characters. Rock your bad side and give it a try.

This was the first time I have done a mystery party! It was very easy and had step by step instructions. I did this for my daughter’s 15th birthday. I had 16 girls and they loved it. They stayed engaged the entire time. Lasted about 3 hours.

This was a fun filled evening! I found the directions very helpful and the step by step guides helped to make the party run smoothly. Had so much fun, that we're looking to host another party this fall.

This was my very first Murder mystery dinner party I had for my co-workers. It was everyone's first one as well so we all just winged it so to speak. We did the pre party messages and calls as well. I had the full on appetizers, dinner and desert for them. It was so much fun and they all did so well in their role playing, not to mention the dress up as well. Great plot. Thank you, LA

I did this for my 18yr olds bday party. We just did the 8 main characters. All girls. It worked out so good! Everyone got so into it, from costumes to characters. The look of fear when certain people walked towards then, nervousness when they were hiding secrets, and wide eyes when they heard gossip about others had me in tears laughing. I hosted, but didn’t participate since it’s my second party. Maybe I’ll join in the next.. but hosting is so much fun! I highly recommend this one. I was wondering why so many others stayed to play with females and now it makes sense. Not that guys can’t get into gossip, but I think females can enjoy the roles much more. It flows on its own and the story builds itself with little to no help. So a big yes for me.. and definitely doing more in the future. Thank youuu!

My tween hosted a murder mystery birthday party. The group loved it and had an amazing time. The game play itself was fun and the storyline was pretty good. I would recommend it. Easy character costumes too which was perfect for a younger group.

We got this for my daughter’s 16th birthday party. It was mixed gender and I heard MANY comments of how much fun they had playing it. The mystery was difficult enough that the murderer was a surprise at the end to all but a couple. It was fairly simple to put together and pretty easy to host. I only hosted (did not play) and just made sure to listen in to know when to go to the next round.

This was our second mystery party. Like all the reviews say- we had so much fun-especially if everyone participates. My family I extra-but this mystery was not like the first. Everyone started looking around for an event to happen so it was hard for any player to get out without being seen- too suspicious!
It was a little harder for whodunnit to be determined but the flow was not as good as the disco. Anyway, these are well done and require prep work. This time instead of envelopes for each player I folded the paper and left the name and round exposed-much easier, not as spectacular. I do recommend the game-especially to an all girls/ladies gathering!

FROM MMP STAFF: Our author does try to switch up the format a bit for our return hosts (which is a large % of our hosts). Why not try a Last Will game next? I ordered this for my teenage daughter’s birthday party. The kids had a blast!

I bought this and an expansion pack for my daughter's 18th birthday party. The group really got into it and they all commented how much fun they had. The only problem I found was with the games. I think a bigger selection could have been given as there were three suggested (though not completely as the so you think you can dance game only had a couple of suggestions of types of dances and the rest you had to think of yourself) but none of them could really work in our setting so a couple more suggestions of bonus games would have been good. We ended up doing reverse charades and a family party board game.

Overall it was lots of fun! We had high school age kids play and they really got into character! There were a few typos and I would suggest NOT using the forensic analysis. It really limited the suspects down to 5 and prior to that we had more, don't use it.

I used this game to have some fun just before Halloween with my grade 9 class. They have English as their second language and I did have to help some of the students, but for the most part, it was great fun. I put out snacks and extra activities (cards, mastermind, face painting, balloon twisting) so they would talk to one another more naturally... but they were instructed not to stay in one place too long and try to speak to everyone at the party. We did it in 2h but it would have been better if we had had a bit more time 2.5-3h. Lots of fun, the kids had a great time!

We hosted this murder mystery for our daughter's 16th birthday party. Everyone dressed up in costume, remained in character and had an absolute blast! Highly recommend!

We tried this for an activity for our cousin's trip and had a great time. The plot and everything was easy to follow and included everyone no matter how big or small of a part. We enjoyed it and will definitely try another one.

We did this murder mystery for my daughter's 18th birthday party with 18 people. It takes a bit to set up with putting everything in envelopes (cutting everything out and 3 x 18 envelopes with writing on the front takes time!) It was a lot of fun and worked really well to get the groups of friends from different places to chat to each other.
Everything was included in the pack. The extra effort with creating an atmosphere is totally worth it. We went with a darkened room, lots of candles and a red, black, gold and silver theme (because it was BLOODwood!)
Pro tip: You really need to have a host who does not participate but just makes sure things run smoothly and gauges when the next round should start.
I highly recommend this pack. It was just what my daughter wanted and worked so well!

The murder mystery was a fun story and game sto ply with a group of 10 - only two people guessed correctly at the end.
That said, I think it would be improved by clearer information given in the clues for each player. It was a little hard to follow and would up with people backtracking a little because they didn’t have complete understanding of their character or the story line. I have participated in one of these in the past, and found it easy to follow.

This game was fantastic for a party of 30 people. I purchased expansion pack one and was worried about characters like magician’s assistant and production assistant but those characters had there own clues and seemed happy enough! The game got everyone from different social circles talking, helped people get out of their comfort zones and was a massive hit. The game even comes with a suggested menu and a bunch of unrelated mini games too.

This was our 5th kids mystery party and it was great. Kids always have fun and the kit is easy to follow.

We did this on New year's Eve. There was 10 of us male and female and we had so much fun. It was kinda easy to figure out who was the victim. That's the only bad thing I could say. They thought of everything and made planning so easy and fun.

We had 9 guests playing who really got into the roles they were given. Every one of them was a first timer for live role play. I wished I had recorded some of the different interactions as they were legit. At one point I was afraid the neighbors might call the police because of the conversations that took place outside! We lit up the back yard and staged different seating arrangements there. We also rearranged the living, dining and family rooms to encourage movement and “private” conversations without people being on top of each other.

Due to Covid-19, my gf and I decided to host a murder mystery MASK-querade party for Halloween. It was only 15 people and we practiced plenty of social distancing and kept our masks on! This party will be the talk of the year! From the set up, the the mini games we played in between, the clues! Everyone got into character and really dressed up. This was such a flawless way to plan a party. This website thought of everything! We took all the suggestions and got some awesome props from the store. We made it very official! As the party host of the group I loved that all the hard work was done for me. We will be making this a tradition from here on out. I totally recommend it to anyone looking to have some fun inside activities to do during this crazy time we are experiencing.

We had a blast dressing up and doing the mystery! I was the host and I was easily able to do it without seeing the results. It was funny because I ended up being the killer and didn't even know! ha!
